A skills self-assessment by domain is a snapshot of your confidence in each area a certification assesses. You choose the certification, score each blueprint domain from 1 (I do not know it) to 5 (I teach others) and get your average confidence, bars by domain, your two weakest domains with where to study them, and next steps. It measures perception, not knowledge: it helps you decide where to start.

How to use

  1. Choose the certification: the tool uses its blueprint domains.
  2. In the table, write the name or number of each domain and choose your confidence from 1 to 5.
  3. See the bars by domain and the two weakest, with a reference for where to study.
  4. Take the certification open assessment and compare the result by domain with your perception.
  5. Export as PNG or CSV, or keep the link to repeat it in a few weeks.

Example

Someone preparing for the CPM-F gives 4 to the product manager role and to agile work, 3 to customer, discovery and solution, and 2 to market and to product life cycle and metrics. Average confidence is 3 out of 5, a developing profile. The two weakest domains are Market, competition and segmentation (2/5, CPM-E guide, sections 5.3, 5.4, 5.6 and 5.7) and Product life cycle and metrics (2/5, sections 9.3, 9.4, 10.3 and 10.4). The next step is the CPM-F open assessment, to compare perception with correct answers.

When to use

  • Before you start studying for a certification exam, to decide where to begin.
  • After a change of role, to see which areas of the new job you have not mastered yet.
  • In a development conversation, to bring a picture by domain instead of a general impression.
  • Every four to six weeks, to track progress with the same criteria.

Frequently asked questions

What is a product skills self-assessment?

It is a score you give yourself for your confidence in each area of product work. Here the areas are the blueprint domains of a certification, which makes the self-assessment comparable with the open assessment and the candidate manual.

How do I score from 1 to 5?

Think about what you do, not what you have read. 1: I do not know it; 2: I have heard of it; 3: I apply it with help; 4: I apply it unaided; 5: I teach others. If you are torn between two scores, take the lower one.

How are the weakest domains chosen?

They are the ones with the lowest scores. In a tie, the domain with more questions in the blueprint comes first, because a gap there costs more in the certification exam; after that, blueprint order.

Why might my perception not match the open assessment?

People often overestimate what they use every day and underestimate what they studied but never applied. That is why the tool suggests comparing: the gap between the score you gave yourself and your correct answers by domain shows where perception misleads.

Can I write the domains in other words?

You can use the domain number, the full name in English, Portuguese or Spanish, or the start of the name. Rows that do not match any domain of the chosen certification are ignored, and the result tells you which ones.

Can I use it with my team?

Yes. Each person fills in their own and shares the result link. Together, the bars show where the team is most confident and where shared study or mentoring is worth arranging.
