CPM-E candidate handbook

Certified Product Manager Enterprise

Everything that applies to the CPM-E certification exam: what it covers, how the exam works, how it is scored and where to study.

Blueprint version 1, published on August 25, 2026. Study guide, edition 2026.1.

What the certification attests

For those who decide on short deadlines, with competing areas and contradictory numbers: strategy, value proposition, prioritisation and launch.

  • You already manage a product and decide under constraints

A short deadline, three areas competing for the same capacity, and one number contradicting another. The certification exam does not ask the name of the technique: it asks what you do with the case in front of you.

  • You have broad knowledge and want to prove judgement

Strategy, market, scope, customer, delivery, metrics and life cycle in a single certification exam. Whoever memorised the vocabulary recognises the topics and stalls at the decision.

  • You want a credential that does not depend on a course

No training is required, and PMCert does not sell the course that prepares you for its own certification exam. The experience you already carry from the job is what counts.

Prerequisite

None. You can take the certification exam directly.

Domains and weights

Questions are drawn for every certification exam, always in this proportion. The weights are the same the exam engine uses.

DomainQuestionsWeightWhere to study

1. Product strategy and vision

Turning the declared company objective into a product decision, and holding the long-term vision when the pressure is quarterly. When to stop generating options, and what to do with the opportunity the scenario analysis found.

816%Guide CPM-E, chapter 4, Product strategy and vision

2. Market, competition and positioning

Reading a competitor move through the real usage of the customers at risk, and sizing the market by what the operation serves today. Brand, trend, channel and entry into a new market, decided with the numbers that exist.

714%Guide CPM-E, chapter 5, Market, competition and segmentation

3. Value proposition and scope decisions

What to preserve when scope is cut, when to stop validating and commit capacity, and how price and packaging follow the value delivered. Minimum scope is relative to an audience, not to a list of features.

714%Guide CPM-E, chapter 6, Value proposition and business model

4. Customer, segment and journey

Deciding when the interview contradicts the usage data, and recognising input gathered in a biased way before investing in it. The real context of use governs the design, not the monitor of whoever drew it.

714%Guide CPM-E, chapter 7, Customer, stakeholders and experience

5. Prioritisation, backlog and delivery

Ordering under real constraints: a work-in-progress limit, a priority category agreed in the minutes, and a story the team can actually execute. Who answers for the backlog order when three areas add to it directly.

816%Guide CPM-E, chapter 8, Planning, backlog and delivery

6. Metrics, goals and product performance

Choosing the indicator that changes a decision, and reading acquisition cost together with tenure. Objectives and key results, the success criterion defined before launch, and the target that came to measure the negotiation.

714%Guide CPM-E, chapter 9, Metrics, targets and performance

7. Product life cycle and release decisions

Launching with a known defect, opening the version to the outside at the right moment, and deciding what to do with the part of the product that has matured. Authority over what is shared, and withdrawing a feature with residual use.

Certification exam rules

Format
Online certification exam, in your browser, with no scheduling and no exam centre. Questions describe work situations and ask for a decision. Some ask for more than one option, and the screen tells you how many.
Time
The clock runs on the server and starts when you open the certification exam. It does not pause: reloading the page, switching devices or closing the browser does not give time back. When time runs out, the exam is submitted with what you have answered.
Navigation
You can go back, change answers and flag questions for review. Before you finish, a screen shows what is answered, flagged and blank.
Scoring
Your score is compared with the pass mark, with no curve. A blank question counts as wrong, and multiple-answer questions get no partial credit.
Result
Immediate, with your score for each domain. It is kept in your account and does not appear on the certificate or the public profile.
Voucher
Each voucher is worth one attempt and is used when the certification exam is opened. A voucher bought on the site never expires. Whoever types the code takes the exam, so treat the code like a ticket.
New attempt
There is no waiting period and no limit. Each attempt uses a voucher, and questions are drawn again. If you do not pass, you get a 50% coupon for the same certification, valid for 90 days.
Refund
Within 14 days of purchase, if the voucher has not been used, through the same payment method.
Technical problem
Come back through the same address: the certification exam resumes with the same questions and the answers already saved. If a platform failure compromises your exam, a new attempt is released at no cost.
Credential
Issued when you pass, with a public verification code. It never expires and has no renewal or annual fee.
Revocation
A credential can be revoked for fraud, disclosure of questions, false identity, misleading use or administrative error. The code remains searchable and shows the revocation.
Integrity
The certification exam is individual and closed book, including artificial intelligence assistants. There is no camera, microphone or screen recording. Signals such as time per question and loss of window focus lead to human review, and no signal fails anyone on its own.
Accessibility
The certification exam screen works with keyboard and screen reader. Extended time of 25% or 50% is requested at checkout or in the account, in Certification exams, before using the voucher. For another adjustment, write to [email protected].
